When I first started blogging last year, I had no idea what I was doing. After launching JasmineRutledge.com, I quickly realized that I would need a community of like-minded people around me. There was so much I didn’t know, and there was no one around me who was on the same journey who could help me, so I turned to the internet. I joined a Facebook group for bloggers and began to lean into this dynamic community. Over the last nine months, I have had the privilege of connecting with so many other amazing women bloggers. Women of all niches, backgrounds, and races – all with their own amazing styles and giftings.
I wanted to specifically highlight black women bloggers today because we’re not always given the same visibility and recognition as other bloggers of different races. Even outside of blogging, the black woman’s public perception isn’t always the greatest and it certainly isn’t always accurate. Black women are great mothers, supportive wives, corporate bosses, devoted Jesus followers, world travelers, fashion killers, and so much more! The women I’m highlighting today are women I admire and whose content I truly enjoy and think you will too!
1. Krystle Barrington | @krystleiam
A writer, author, and encourager, Krystle is my go-to girl when I want to feel inspired and challenged to keep pushing towards my best. She has a way of being so refreshingly transparent and insanely encouraging that you leave her page feeling not only seen but also inspired and motivated. Sis also has INCREDIBLE style, giving serious outfit inspo with just about every post. See exhibits A, B, and C.
2. Crystal Scruggs | @ohhthtscrystal
Crystal reminds me of your bad and bougie – but still humble – girlfriend who has all the connects. On her Instagram, she shares encouragement about marriage, bossing up in the corporate world, and empowering others. This woman truly knows how to rally a group of women to elevate themselves and the people and spaces around them. If you love women who love empowering other women, Crystal is your girl! Be sure to check out her “Working Women Wednesday” lives and IGTV series where she dives into all things related to being a corporate girl boss.
3. Kangelia Baxter | @ourhomeourhaven
Ms. Kangelia is a faith, marriage, and lifestyle blogger living in Tampa, Fl (my hometown! ). Every younger woman needs an older woman in her life who can give her wisdom and support and Kangelia truly embodies that! On her page, she regularly hands out marriage and parenting wisdom that is simple and practical but powerful. Her #WeddedWednesday posts always leave me wanting to be a better wife to my man.
She also loves Jesus and extends that love to others by sharing daily Bible verses and taking prayer requests in her Instagram stories. Seriously, Ms. Kangelia is the internet auntie we ALL need.
4. Peta-Gaye Daniel | @mycruisingfam
Peta-Gaye is an NYC lawyer, wife, mom, and Jesus-lover who blogs about her adventures traveling with her husband and children. I’ve discovered so many travel destinations, cool hotels, and other travel wisdom from following her page. I especially love that she travels with her children and shows us how to do it without going crazy. If you like packing and travel tips, vacation inspo, and hotel room tours, Peta-Gaye is the girl for you!
5. Jasmine Rutledge | @jasrutledge
Yours truly! I had to throw myself in here since not everyone who follows this blog also follows me on the ‘gram.
I love writing here on my blog but it’s hard to make genuine connections because, unless you leave a comment, this is just a one-way conversation. On my Instagram, I share much more behind the scenes and everyday life. From fashion to my current favorite books, family, and life updates I really peel back the curtain and share a lot with my followers.
Stories is my favorite feature because that’s where I share daily Bible verses, document fun times with my family, take prayer requests, and let the world see me dressed down and casual, or behind the scenes of my life as a blogger and influencer. I also love talking to my followers in the comments and in my Dm’s and I don’t ignore messages so it’s the perfect place to catch me if you have questions, need prayer, or just want to chat.
6. Gayona Chinn | @gayonachinn
Ms. Gayona is a lifestyle blogger whose goal is to inspire women to find their purpose and live in it! If you ask me, she is definitely reaching that goal because every time I leave her Instagram page or blog I leave feeling inspired to get my style, my home, or my life together. Her style is just so effortlessly beautiful and classic. Everything I see her post just screams excellence and care to me, and I’m not ashamed to admit I want to be like her when I grow up.
7. Kabrena Williams | @kb.inbloom
I smiled SO BIG when I got to Kabrena’s part and that is the perfect way to describe what it feels like when you visit her blog or Instagram. Kabrena is like that friend who feels like a sister. She just radiates positivity and is the poster child for a carefree black girl. She is all about self-care and regularly posts encouraging self-care gems on her page and blog. I go to her page whenever I need an instant mood-lifter. She is also the ultimate hype woman and is always encouraging those around her.
8. Mhykee George | @mhykeexg
Last but certainly not least is Mrs. Mhykee George. The first thing that struck me when I first discovered Mhykee’s Instagram page was “wow, this woman really loves Jesus!” Her Instagram and blog are so inspiring for women who truly want to pursue Christ and grow in their relationship with Him.
While sis is always serving LOOKS, her page is so much more than just a beautiful array of aesthetically pleasing glamour shots. Mhykee is always encouraging you to live your best life without compromising your walk with God. Even in her non-faith-based posts, she’s inspiring you to elevate your life. Whether it be through a reel on recycling dresses as shirts or a behind-the-scenes of her first chemical peel, Mhykee’s page will motivate and you to live your best life while glorifying God in the process.
I hope this list of black women bloggers has inspired you to connect with some amazing content creators. It’s always a treat to see these ladies show up in my feed and I’m confident they’ll add value to your virtual space as well!
