Our Kindergarten Must Haves: 5 Essentials

08/22/2023

I think most of us can agree that going to Kindergarten looks a lot different for our kids than it did for us 20+ years ago. Heck, it looks different than it did just five years ago. I still can hardly believe my husband and I have an elementary schooler now, but disbelief aside, I’m so excited my baby is starting Kindergarten next week!

I’ve been preparing for her first year of school all summer and I wanted to share some of the items that made our essentials list. These are kindergarten must haves items we purchased to make her first year exciting, safe, and easy to manage for the whole family.

1 | A comfy backpack featuring her favorite characters

Like most little girls, my daughter is a Disney princess enthusiast. I figured her backpack is the one thing she’ll have to wear every day that will contain all things pertaining to school, so she needs to love it, but it also needs to be functional.  I like that this backpack showcases her love for Disney, is lightweight, roomy, and comes with a water bottle and headphones (two things on her school supply list).

2 | FUNtainer Food Container and Water Bottle

My child’s favorite thing to do outside of playing is eating, so it only made sense that most of our kindergarten must haves are related to food. Both the FUNtainer food container and water bottle are insulated and leakproof. The water bottle keeps drinks cold for up to twelve hours while the thermos keeps food warm for up to five.

3 | Leakproof Bentgo lunch box

The Bentgo bento lunchboxes are also leakproof, keeping food from spilling out of the lunchbox and out of one compartment into another food’s compartment. It also has a rubber coating that prevents the container from breaking if it gets dropped.

4 | OLLY Kids Immunity Elderberry Gummies

If you’ve had kids in school or daycare, you know that these places are cesspools of germs and sickness. I’m trying to give my daughter’s immune system a fighting chance this year with these Elderberry gummies. Each gummy contains Elderberry, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc.

5 | TickTalk 4 Kid’s Smart Watch

I know I said earlier that I’m excited for my girl to start school, but I am also slightly terrified. I don’t know if it’s all of the school shootings this country has become all-too-familiar with or the fact that I spent most of my life watching true crime shows, but safety has been a major concern for me. Just the thought of my daughter being at a much bigger school and potentially having to catch the bus to her after school program – we haven’t made a final decision on after school yet – is scary to say the least. So my husband and I have decided to track her every move.

No doubt, this smartwatch is the most important of the Kindergarten must haves for us. It allows us to track her location in real time. We can also call her and video chat with her at anytime. She doesn’t know our phone numbers yet, which isn’t a problem because the watch lets us pre-program our phone numbers so she can call us at just the press of a button. It also has a parental control function called “school mode” that allows us to restrict her use during instruction time (so sis isn’t calling us when she’s supposed to be paying attention in class). My husband and I also love that it has no access to the internet, games, or social media so we don’t have to worry about her being exposed to any non-vetted content. I’m excited to put this to use this year and see how we like it!

Back to school can be stressful, but I’m praying the year gets off to a smooth start for us all (and stays that way). I hope you got some inspiration from my list on products that can make this school year fun, healthy, and safe for your little scholar as well!

How to Have a Daily Quiet Time with God

Postpartum shedding done took my edges OUT. I was Postpartum shedding done took my edges OUT. I was expecting this since this isn’t my first rodeo, but it’s still annoying 😒.

Now that my go to lazy girl hair style (a puff) is out of the question, I’ve had to learn how to master styles that will hide my hairline until the hair grows back.

If you’ve been here a while you know I don’t know how to do hair and twist outs and me do not mix, but I think I finally got it! How do you think I did??

Also, please drop your tips for simple styles to do that will hide a thinning hairline. I’m taking all the help I can get 😩
Every verse here is special to me, but this week Z Every verse here is special to me, but this week Zephaniah 3:17 hits home the most.

I know how excited I get when I think about my God, but to think He gets just as excited about me is still something I can’t fully wrap my brain around. I love knowing that God - as perfect as He is and as powerful as He is - has a soft spot for little old imperfect me.

This week I’m praying for everyone who comes across this post. May the love of God ease your every fear and insecurity, and may you rest content and at peace in His overflowing love towards you ♥️
I’ve been posting a daily Bible verse in my stor I’ve been posting a daily Bible verse in my stories for almost 3 years now. I recently took a (long) break and decided to bring the daily verses back as a weekly post on my feed.

The goal is to let the word “live” permanently on my page so you can come back to verses that resonate with you over and over again.

One of the best things you can do for your relationship with God is to spend time in His word. Don’t just be satisfied with these snippets. Open up your Bible (or the Bible app) and read the full chapter for more context and clarity. That’s how we get to know God better!

I pray these verses encourage and strengthen you as you take on this new week. Praying for you and cheering you on, friend ♥️

My number one laundry must-have is this baby laund My number one laundry must-have is this baby laundry stain remover spray. Listen, @dreft did their thing when they made this. It has been holding me down since Toni Noelle was a newborn.

I use this spray on literally EVERYTHING. It’s gotten spaghetti sauce stains out of my rugs. Coffee stains out of my white settee and so much more.

I also really like that it’s safe to use around the kids. It’s made of plant-based ingredients and doesn’t contain any dyes so I don’t have to worry about it harming them.

Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle (or 2). I included a link to it in my bio ♥️

Also, this is not sponsored. I wasn’t paid for this or sent any products for free. I been spending my own money on this for years and think you’ll love it like I do!
I shared this message in a caption of a reel last I shared this message in a caption of a reel last year and after adding baby number 2 to the tribe a few months ago, I’m standing ten toes down on it.

As seasons change splitting the work looks different than before, but it still needs to happen. I couldn’t imagine working all day and my partner not help me maintain the place we both call home or take care of the kids he helped me make.

Single ladies, have this conversation as early in the relationship as you can so you both have the right expectations going into marriage. Also take stock of his cleaning habits beforehand so you won’t be caught off guard later I’m fortunate because I didn’t marry a lazy man. He was on top of keeping his bachelor pad in order way before I came into the picture 🙌🏾

Now if you’re already in a relationship and struggling in this area, now would be a great time to lovingly but firmly set some boundaries, ask for some help, then get to delegating. God tells you to be your home’s manager, not a workhorse ♥️

P.S.
Now is a great time to remind you to grab the free prayer guide: “14 Days of Declaring Scriptures Over Your Husband”. It’s linked in my bio under “Free Guides”
