How to Read More This Year + My 2024 Reading List

01/18/2024

The inner bookworm in me is almost ashamed to admit this, but I made it through a whopping ONE book last year. The 3rd-grade me who read a full Harry Potter book in one day would be appalled that adult Jasmine could only muster one book in 12 months. If you’re struggling to read more, I’m right there with you. Last year was admittedly a low point for me as far as reading goes, but I’ve had years where I made it through a good chunk of my reading list. This year, I’m pulling from old tactics that worked well for me and sharing them with those of you who want to read more this year too!

Create a reading wishlist

Decide how many books you want to read this year, then take it a step further and decide which specific books you want to read. You’re much more likely to read more if you’ve decided ahead of time what books you want to enjoy.

Now you don’t have to have a full list that encompasses the whole year just yet, but I advise to start with at least six (that’s one book every other month). As the year progresses, add more to your reading wishlist.

Schedule it

Reading more doesn’t happen by accident. Everyday life and responsibilities will absolutely steal your reading time if you don’t prioritize it. Find a time when you are most alert and have the least distractions and designate that time as your reading time every day. If you have a spouse or children, communicate your reading schedule to them as well so they know not to interrupt you during that time.

Take advantage of idle time

This is a tip I got from one of the books on my reading list below. In Fringe Hours, Jessica Turner encourages her readers to use small pockets of idle time to get tasks done. If you’re waiting in the carpool line for afterschool pickup, or waiting in a doctor’s office for your appointment, whip out your book and get a few pages in instead of idling those extra 15 or so minutes away. It might seem insignificant, but those minutes add up!

Set page goals instead of duration goals

I used to aim to read at least 30 minutes a day, but now that I have two kids (one of which is still breastfeeding), it’s hard to get a full 30 minutes uninterrupted while I am at my best and most alert. My solution is to aim to read at least 10 pages each day throughout the day. You may not be able to commit to a full time block, but setting a page goal and reading through the pages throughout the day when you have pockets of time is an effective strategy to help you read more.

My 2024 Reading List

how to read more

I’m always excited to gather my list of books at the beginning of the year. This year my list is a mixture of new (to me) books and ones I want to re-read. The number of books I want to read is a bit of a stretch (especially since I only read one all of last year), but the goal is to read more so I went the ambitious route.

Now that my go to lazy girl hair style (a puff) is out of the question, I’ve had to learn how to master styles that will hide my hairline until the hair grows back.

If you’ve been here a while you know I don’t know how to do hair and twist outs and me do not mix, but I think I finally got it! How do you think I did??

Also, please drop your tips for simple styles to do that will hide a thinning hairline. I’m taking all the help I can get 😩
Every verse here is special to me, but this week Z Every verse here is special to me, but this week Zephaniah 3:17 hits home the most.

I know how excited I get when I think about my God, but to think He gets just as excited about me is still something I can’t fully wrap my brain around. I love knowing that God - as perfect as He is and as powerful as He is - has a soft spot for little old imperfect me.

This week I’m praying for everyone who comes across this post. May the love of God ease your every fear and insecurity, and may you rest content and at peace in His overflowing love towards you ♥️
I’ve been posting a daily Bible verse in my stor I’ve been posting a daily Bible verse in my stories for almost 3 years now. I recently took a (long) break and decided to bring the daily verses back as a weekly post on my feed.

The goal is to let the word “live” permanently on my page so you can come back to verses that resonate with you over and over again.

One of the best things you can do for your relationship with God is to spend time in His word. Don’t just be satisfied with these snippets. Open up your Bible (or the Bible app) and read the full chapter for more context and clarity. That’s how we get to know God better!

I pray these verses encourage and strengthen you as you take on this new week. Praying for you and cheering you on, friend ♥️

My number one laundry must-have is this baby laund My number one laundry must-have is this baby laundry stain remover spray. Listen, @dreft did their thing when they made this. It has been holding me down since Toni Noelle was a newborn.

I use this spray on literally EVERYTHING. It’s gotten spaghetti sauce stains out of my rugs. Coffee stains out of my white settee and so much more.

I also really like that it’s safe to use around the kids. It’s made of plant-based ingredients and doesn’t contain any dyes so I don’t have to worry about it harming them.

Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle (or 2). I included a link to it in my bio ♥️

Also, this is not sponsored. I wasn’t paid for this or sent any products for free. I been spending my own money on this for years and think you’ll love it like I do!
I shared this message in a caption of a reel last I shared this message in a caption of a reel last year and after adding baby number 2 to the tribe a few months ago, I’m standing ten toes down on it.

As seasons change splitting the work looks different than before, but it still needs to happen. I couldn’t imagine working all day and my partner not help me maintain the place we both call home or take care of the kids he helped me make.

Single ladies, have this conversation as early in the relationship as you can so you both have the right expectations going into marriage. Also take stock of his cleaning habits beforehand so you won’t be caught off guard later I’m fortunate because I didn’t marry a lazy man. He was on top of keeping his bachelor pad in order way before I came into the picture 🙌🏾

Now if you’re already in a relationship and struggling in this area, now would be a great time to lovingly but firmly set some boundaries, ask for some help, then get to delegating. God tells you to be your home’s manager, not a workhorse ♥️

P.S.
Now is a great time to remind you to grab the free prayer guide: “14 Days of Declaring Scriptures Over Your Husband”. It’s linked in my bio under “Free Guides”
