Spring has officially sprung!
As a born and bred Floridian, I am ecstatic that we are finally looking toward warmer and brighter days. Now that the sun is coming out and the flowers are in bloom, I’ve began looking at my life to see what areas I can liven up as well. The spring refresh is all about making little changes in order to upgrade and rejuvenate key aspects of your life and/or home. Today I’m excited to be sharing with you some changes you can make this spring in three different areas: your skincare, your home, and your faith. Let’s get into it!
YOUR SKINCARE
Exfoliate
After coming through the cold, dry winter weather, our skin is 100% in need of extra love and TLC. Exfoliating removes the old, dry, dead layer of cells leaving behind softer, brighter skin so you can literally put your best face forward.
When it comes to exfoliants for the face, scrubs are too abrasive and can cause microtears in the skin. For this reason, I prefer chemical peels. My go-to face exfoliants right now are the Yes to Grapefruit Daily Exfoliating Tonic and the Derma E Vitamin C Instant Radiance Citrus Facial Peel. For the body, physical exfoliants are perfectly fine. These days I’m partial to the sugar scrubs from Tree Hut, especially the scrub in the scent Tahitian Vanilla Bean (it smells like vacation in a jar. AH-MAZING.)
Switch up your moisturizer
During the winter months, our moisturizers have to work overtime to combat the drying effects of the cold so we tend to rely on heavier formulas, but in the springtime, I like to switch to more lightweight moisturizers that won’t make me feel so greasy (and extra hot) as the weather warms up. I recently switched to the Farmacy Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer. It is very lightweight and leaves my face super moisturized without leaving behind a greasy shine. For the body, both Bath and Body Works’ Fire Body Lotion and Sol de Janeiro’s Bom Dia Bright Cream are nice lightweight body lotions that will leave your skin glowing and smelling AMAZING.

Break out the sunscreen
Honestly, we should be wearing sunscreen year-round, but it becomes especially important to ensure you’re protecting your skin as the sunlight intensifies in the spring and summer.
Much like the moisturizer tip above, I suggest switching to a lighter sunscreen in the warmer months. My absolute favorite one right now is the Tula Protect + Glow daily sunscreen gel.
Your Home
Decor
Spring is the perfect time to switch up your decor and brighten up your space. An easy way to do this is to swap out your accent pillows for ones that are brighter and more colorful. I’m partial to the color teal right now, but you do what works for you, sis!
Greenery is also a simple way to incorporate a spring refresh into your decor. Whether real or faux, plants instantly brighten up a space and bring a bit of the outdoors inside.
Clean and Declutter
I talk about cleaning in my previous post “4 Simple Ways to Make Your Home More Inviting” so I won’t harp on it here, but cleaning and organizing work wonders in rejuvenating your space. It’s akin to giving your home an instant facelift.
This is the perfect time to deep clean your home. Dust your furniture, light fixtures, and ceiling fans. Vacuum and mop your floors. Clean your refrigerator and oven. Empty out that junk drawer that has amassed an insane amount of random trinkets that you KNOW you aren’t ever going to use. When you’re done, you’ll feel like you’re in a new place. The best part, it will only cost you time and a little elbow grease.
YOUR FAITH
While skincare and home decor are fun, tending to yourself spiritually is the best upgrade you can make. When we’re rejuvenated on the inside, it radiates outward to everything in our sphere of influence. It wouldn’t be a true spring refresh if we didn’t refresh our relationship with God.
All relationships can get stagnant and our walk with God is no exception. What better time to spice up your walk with Him than when your mind is already ripe and ready for a change?
Start a new devotional
I love a good devotional because it is an easy way to be guided through the scriptures while learning something new. Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling devotional has been a favorite of mine for years.
If you prefer to go the digital route, the YouVersion Bible App (Bible.com) has hundreds of devotionals of varying lengths and on various topics that you can choose from.
Go on a fast
Fasting might not sound like the sexiest way to refresh your life, but hear me out. Fasting is a POWERFUL discipline. It crucifies your flesh (churchy way of saying it helps you stay out of sin). It also helps sharpen you spiritually and allows you to be more in tune with God, better able to sense and hear His direction and guidance. If you’ve never fasted before, I highly suggest reading the book “Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough” by Elmer Towns.
Take your devotional time outdoors
I think it’s safe to assume that most people’s Bible study, prayer, and devotional time takes place indoors. Mine in particular is relegated to my living room couch. As much as I enjoy retreating to that space every day to commune with God, it’s easy for that time to start to feel boring and routine.
Well, this is the perfect weather to break up the monotony of your devotional time and get outdoors. I am a huge fan of doing my Bible study outside (when the weather is nice). There’s just something about connecting to God’s word while sitting outside on a clear 70-degree day when the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and a light breeze is flowing by. Not only does it just feel good, but I’ve also found that doing my studying outdoors helps me be more attentive to what I’m reading.
